About Savannah
“I love that you actually ask questions, give feedback, and really respond.” This is feedback that I’ve received from clients over and over again. While I do want to give you as much space as you need in our sessions, I’m also not one to sit in unnecessary silence or simply smile and nod. When we’re in a session, I’m truly in it with you, and I love engaging with my clients in an active, yet intentionally therapeutic, manner.
I double-majored in psychology and English at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania, then went on to pursue a Masters in Social Work with a clinical concentration from the University of New England. Through my educational experiences; which included fulfilling and eye-opening study abroad experiences in places like Uruguay, Bali, Ireland, and Italy, as well as practicum experiences in schools and residential and outpatient mental health facilities; I gained an enhanced appreciation and respect for human suffering and human connection. At this point in my career, I’ve heard it all - so I’m not one to shy away from thoughts or experiences that feel hard to say out loud, or from the things that bring you shame - and I’ve found that suffering is eased through genuine connection and safety with others. My hope is that therapy can be a space where this connection is found, and that it can be a soft landing spot for you as you get into the nitty gritty of your work.
And, while we’ll likely get into the weeds of some pretty serious matters when we work together, I don’t take myself too seriously. I love laughing with the people that I work with, and bring a genuine, laid-back vibe to sessions. Chances are that we’ll have quite a bit of fun through the process, even amidst the hard work.
While my own experiences will never be projected onto those I work with, it’s also worth noting that I’ve been on the other side of the therapeutic equation, and understand what it’s like to come into therapy and bring your anxieties, vulnerabilities, and pain into the room with another person. Being the client in therapy is not always easy, and I have tremendous respect for anyone who is willing to open themselves up to the process.
Outside of my practice, I enjoy spending hours on end at the pottery studio, reading, and traveling to experience new places and cultures. I’ll never turn down French macarons, an impromptu weekend adventure, or a sunny-day walk with my dog, Casco (named after Casco Bay in Portland).
